Ultra Live Sand - Air Cargo

Ultra Live Sand - Air Cargo

  • Sustainably Harvested
  • Excellent Bio filtration
  • Fast and Fresh Delivery

Ultra Live Sand sold by the pound and ships air cargo in a TBS bucket.

TBS Live Sand contains beneficial bacteria. Many organisms not visible are found living within its layers.  These microscopic and megascopic organisms are vital components for cycling a new tank.  Natural bacteria help with denitrification, water clarity, ammonia break down, disposal of detritus and uneaten foods.  These unseen life forms are of extreme importance for a healthy aquarium.

The grain size is conducive to deep sand beds due to the irregularity of shapes and sizes. It is an excellent choice for tanks with high flow, as it is not easily blown around like finer grained sand.

Jawfish, gobies and wrasses will appreciate TBS Live Sand’s texture when creating burrows for living and sleeping. Sand sifting starfish, nassarius and cerith snails will live under the sand. Long tentacle anemones will bury through it.

When cycling a NEW tank add Base Rock for maximum results.
•This product ships air freight.
•For smaller amounts of sand go to the TBS TREASURE CHEST SAND BOX.

Sustainably Collected Live Sand

Not many vendors offer diver collected sand.  Why?  Because collecting it is hard work.
We harvest live sand by hand on the ocean bottom where the current is flowing and tides a changing. This is a tedious job but well worth the effort. Our Live Sand is so full of goodies that it is literally harvested amongst flounders. Yes, flounders are very interested in sand collection.
TBS live sand is transported in natural sea water to the Icehouse.  Once in the holding system the sand is kept in medium flow with moderate lighting.  A couple giant hermit crabs patrol the sandy surface keeping it aerated.
Ocean harvested live sand is a big seller and moves quickly, so expect only the freshest grains in your order.
The recommended amount of live sand in a marine aquarium is 1 pound per gallon. This provides about an inch of depth.

Care for Hand Harvested Live Sand

  • Basic care – Is provided by a clean-up crew of critters.  Hermits, snails, starfish, cucumbers and shrimps will scavenge through it, scuttle across it and burrow in.  This helps aerate the sand and move detritus out.  Occasional vacuuming of small sections will keep detritus laden areas fresh.
  • Functioning Aquarium Required– TBS Live Sand will arrive in seawater, carefully bagged, and held in an insulated box.  This is a perishable product and requires life support provided by a working aquarium.
  • Flow – Live Sand was harvested from a lease site many miles out in the Gulf of Mexico, where the water is flowing, and tides are changing. We recommend good water flow.
  • Water Quality – Reverse Osmosis De-Ionized water is vital for your marine inhabitants. Use it to top-off evaporated water and use it when making your own saltwater at specific gravity 1.024-1.026.
  • Harvesting & Shipping are Weather Dependent- We make every attempt to collect and ship weekly, but sometimes mother nature says No.
  • Shipper Abuse or Customer Neglect- We do our best to package securely in the event of box abuse in the hands of carriers.  Contact us immediately with concerns regarding box damage.  We also do our best to coordinate with customer’s airport pick-ups and rely on you to be available for Treasure Chest deliveries.  We are not responsible for orders left at the destination air cargo hub or left outside your door for hours.
